My uncle says this album is a hit. Most critics say it's a miss. Bloggers overanalyze and fans will love it regardless. But it's generally agreed that this is supposed to be the make-or-break album for Janet's career.
Personally I love this album. It takes a minute to get into, but I like it a lot better than her last two. I am loving "Greatest X"...hopefully this will be the next single. Two songs -- "Can't B Good" and "What's Ur Name" (I'm trying to forgive all these intentional spellings but it's hard) -- are good too, but I would like it if her brother sang these songs. The only thing I don't like are the last 15 or so seconds of the title track. Makes me feel dirty...too dirty.
What's killing Janet's career isn't bad criticism or bad choices in music or the Super Bowl controversy. It's that everyone wants so badly for her to come out with another "Control" or "Velvet Rope." She won't. Let her progress and try new things. And let us let her.
