Trying to get back in the game
So.
Life?
And all that?
Pretty complicated.
Details at 11.
Anyways...
I've been toying with the idea of a food blog. Not a separate blog from this one, but just little things I experiment with now and then. Call it Bachelor Gourmet.
Last night, I was looking through the fridge and realized I had half a block of Neufchatel and a can of French roll dough past its expiration date, and I said, "Well, I can do something with this." I remembered a wine-and-cheese lunch at my grandparents' house a few weekends back and one of the things we had was a cabernet cheese spread. It wasn't anything to write home about, but it did inspire this recipe:
Red Wine and Olive spread
Ingredients:
1/2 block of Neufchatel or cream cheese, softened
Three (I'm guessing) tablespoons of olive oil
A few teaspoons of sliced green olives
Dashes of thyme, sea salt, garlic pepper and peppercorn (or anything you have in your cabinet)
Anywhere between 2-4 splashes of red wine (I used a syrah, but as long as it's strong and bold it will work. Don't use cheap shit like Franzia, either.)
I have a mini-blender which is used for smoothies and shit like that, so that's what I used to blend all this together. Neufchatel tastes exactly like cream cheese, onl not as fatty. The olive oil gives it a bit of consistency and flavor, but the actual olives is what you'll be tasting. You can still taste the red wine, but it won't overpower the other tastes. It's like a party in your mouth and everyone's invited!
You'll probably have enough leftover to keep spreading on whatever kind of bread you like. My advice: Hit up Kroger or Meijer and get the day-old or about-to-expire bread that's usually marked down to bargain-basement prices. Cut the bread in slices (if not done so already) and freeze it. To reheat it, it only takes a minute. Or, if you've got a party to throw/go to, this makes a wonderful dip.
Was that Martha enough for you?

Miss me?
Hopefully I'll find some motivation to keep this blog going. I haven't abandoned it at all. Just been busy.

When divas collide
Usually I'm not a big fan of homemade remixes that pop up on YouTube, but this? HOT!
